August 2023

Hey everyone! It's been a minute. A lot has happened since I last updated and I'm excited to give you some hilights. First, our alumni testimony. This one is special because it's from a friend named Jessica whom I met during my first year with FOCUS staff! It's really neat to read her story and see how far the Lord has brought her. Take a peak!

Let me just say God is good and the amount of interest we have seen in Jesus and Christian community since school has started could not be pulled off on our efforts alone. We're simply joining him in what he is already doing. Here are some pictures to give you a glimpse. Thank you for investing in them!

Playing games with new students at the campus Fuzzy's

A couple of our male staff with some of our male leaders! After and epic game of capture the flag

Campus worship night! 106 degree heat in public on campus. This was a joint ministry effort with a few other campus ministries. Several students joined by seeing what was happening. Don't worry, we had water :)  Over 100 people came!

We had a weekend retreat to spiritually invest in our student leaders in beautiful and mostly-still-green East TX (also known as core-fas, or core facilitators. Cores are their small groups that they commit to being responsible to and preparing for). It was awesome. We came out of that weekend like a team.

We had a latin dance night where a FOCUS alumni, Brandon Barrientos, led lessons in Meringue on campus. It was so much fun! We even had students dancing on the balcony of the union to our music.

Had around 30 students come to the Women's Soccer game at UNT. My friend Rachel plays for UNT and it was so cool to me that these people who don't know her would come watch her play.

A picture from our first TNF! We actually sensed we would be over capacity for the room we were assigned. We went to talk to the student life office and they graciously found us a room that seated 25 more 2 days before our first TNF. We still needed extra seats. I can't remember the last time we had such a large turnout.

Ronnie preparing our student leaders to go and love people like Jesus. This was awesome. Ronnie is a pastor and mentor to our staff and students!

All I can really say is that God is doing a new thing at UNT, TWU, and NCTC. Thank you for praying, giving, and for loving God's people.

In Christ,

Shayla
