January 2026: Winter Retreat
Winter retreat was over a week ago! What a phenomenal way to start the semester! It was our largest turnout ever (around 830 people came). The students are so hungry for God. You could see it in the way they worshipped, the way they loved one another, and the way they were so responsive to the teachings from guest speaker Marty Solomon.
Marty did 5 different teachings through Genesis and myself and others were laughing, crying, getting convicted and a lot of audible responses from the audience. It had been a minute since I felt like I learned something new from Genesis. I really learned so much and so did our students.
Here's a picture of Marty teaching. He has some pizzazz to his teaching style and the students loved it! You can learn more from him from the BEMA podcast.
Something we've started doing the last few years is offering optional classes and free time activities at retreat. Sarah Worsham and I did 3 improv classes. We must have had around 40 students each day. Improv is so fun because it really empowers people to take themselves less seriously and helps in a big way with anxiety! My friend Becky who is FOCUS alumni, ministry partner, and dear friend came and did a class on coping skills for anxiety and depression - that was full. Brandon, Ronnie, and Garrett did a Q&R called "Ask Unc" (what gen-z calls older people) and it was so jam packed, it went way longer than the allotted time. Students are eager to learn and be discipled.
Here's a picture Darby took of Sarah and I's first improv class we taught. The students were so eager to start doing scenes and dialogue and performing. They were so fun.

This month's student testimony is one of our sweetest guys from UNT, Ariel! I've loved getting to know him some over the last 1.5 years. Please read his testimony and pray for him.
Thank y'all for everything! Thank you for loving me and these students!
